What does that mean for your business?
At this point, we are well into the 4th quarter and you may have already noticed it’s getting harder to get a hold of clients or simply complete a sale. This is because the holidays are all about family; this is just as true in business. So, I like take the 4th quarter and really focus on my business family.
Sure, it may not be exactly what you think when you think of family, but they are part of it. Whether it’s your employees or customers, this time of year is a great time to reconnect and show these people just how committed to their success you are.
I’m big on using the 4th quarter to follow up with clients that I haven’t spoken to in a while, even if it’s just to say “Hi.” It’s a great way to see what’s new with them and see if there’s any room for you in their plans for the beginning of the year. Who knows, maybe it even leads to an immediate sale.
You would be surprised by how happy most people are just to hear from you; it’s just plain ole’ great customer service. Regardless, you should follow up with as many clients, active or inactive, as you can and see what’s new. Send out holiday cards to your client base, simply to send them well wishes during this merry season.
When it comes to employees, you should be doing your best to show them just how invested in them we are year round, but in the 4th quarter is when you should go above and beyond. Buy them all lunch one day, give them a small holiday gift or bonus, and most importantly take the time to thank each and every person at your company for all the hard work they have put in this year getting your company to where it is today. Remember, you wouldn’t be here without them so make sure they know that.
Lastly, don’t forget your real family. After all, they’re the ones you work so hard for. They may not be directly related to your business family, but they are always there to pick you up after a rough day at the office. Remember to spend some extra time with them and enjoy the fruits of your labor a little this holiday season.
Whatever you do this time of year, don’t forget about the people who got you through it. These are also the people who are going to carry through next year and all the years to come. The 4th quarter can be slow, but making sure you are using this time to reconnect with people in your business family is a perfect way to spend it.
