In marketing, consistency is key. This holds true whether it’s your branding or messaging. Keeping up your efforts is probably one of the hardest aspects of marketing, simply because there are always seemingly more immediate things in need of your attention. Even as I am writing this blog post, I have a to-do list a mile long; but, at the end of the day, this is just as if not more important than any other task.

Trust me, I know what you’re thinking; I don’t have time to keep up with blogging, email newsletters and Facebook. The answer to this problem is simple: make time!

Blogging, social media and news letters are all great effective ways to get your message out there. That’s what marketing is all about, right? Letting people know “Hey, I’m here and better than anybody else in my field.”

So how consistent are your marketing efforts? Is your branding consistent across all platforms? Is your vehicle fleet matching? Are you blogging consistently? If you answered no to any of these questions you may want to evaluate where marketing falls in your priority list.

Start by making sure your branding is the same across the board, from your website to your invoices. You want to make sure everything a client or prospect touches has a similar look and feel. If you decide to update your logo or slogan, you better update those elements on everything. This way you don’t hand a client a business card that looks radically different from your service vehicle.

Next start an editorial calendar for blog posts and newsletters. Start small, writing a few hundred words every other week or so to break you into a rhythm. Then, start writing more frequently, adding long-form copy that Google loves to see. Blogging and news letters are a great opportunity to prove to people you know what you’re talking about and that you’re an expert in your field – without actually doing work for them.

Lastly, get your message out on social media. This one can be a little more time consuming since it can require you reply to people’s posts on your profiles. However, a lot of social media posts can be automated these days using a couple of different programs. My favorite is Hootsuite because it’s simple, intuitive and allows you to schedule posts to multiple platforms in one dashboard.

All of these actions will help to position yourself as an authority in your field, all while simultaneously giving you more credibility. So what are you waiting for? Get out there and take control of your marketing!
